Mining Hosting is a service model in which the owner of mining hardware places the equipment at a third-party mining facility. The hosting operator provides some or all of the infrastructure required to operate the hardware, while ownership of the equipment may remain with the customer.

Depending on the agreement, the operator may provide electricity, physical space, cooling, network connectivity, monitoring, security, installation, maintenance, and repair services. The exact scope is determined by the hosting contract.

When evaluating a hosting agreement, the headline electricity price is not necessarily the total operating cost. Additional charges may apply to maintenance, repairs, installation, logistics, minimum consumption, or other services.

Infrastructure Dependency

Mining hosting allows an equipment owner to avoid building and operating a private mining facility. At the same time, the owner becomes dependent on the hosting operator for important infrastructure services.

Power availability, cooling quality, maintenance procedures, access rules, outage handling, and transparency of billing are therefore important operational considerations.

Mining hosting should be distinguished from operating a fully owned mining site because the infrastructure is provided as a service by another operator.
