Control board is an electronic controller in a mining device that coordinates the operation of computing boards and other components. In an ASIC miner, it typically interacts with hashboards, the cooling system, the network interface, and the software.

Main Functions

  • starting and stopping computing boards;
  • monitoring operating parameters;
  • sending tasks to computing chips;
  • receiving and processing computation results;
  • providing a network connection to a mining pool or another source of tasks;
  • controlling fans and monitoring temperature.

The control board does not perform the main volume of hashing. Computations are performed by specialized components, such as ASIC chips on hashboards.

If the control board fails, the miner may completely lose network connectivity, stop starting the computing boards, or incorrectly display their status, even when the hashboards themselves are functioning properly.
