An exchange account is a user account on a crypto exchange that provides access to trading, balances, deposits, withdrawals, and account management functions. On a centralized platform, the account is normally connected to internal asset accounting and security settings.

After registration, a user may complete KYC, configure two-factor authentication, add withdrawal addresses, and deposit funds. Available functions depend on the exchange, jurisdiction, and verification status.

What an exchange account may contain

  • balances of different crypto assets;
  • trade and order history;
  • deposit addresses;
  • deposit and withdrawal history;
  • security settings;
  • access to spot and other trading products.

An exchange account should be distinguished from a crypto wallet. On a centralized exchange, a user balance is often an internal ledger entry, while a non-custodial wallet gives the user direct control over the corresponding private key.
