Pool Worker is a logical identifier used by a mining pool to separate the computational work of one device or group of devices from other connected participants. Workers are primarily used for statistics, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

A physical miner and a worker are not necessarily the same thing. For example, one ASIC can operate as one worker, while multiple processes or devices may be represented differently depending on the mining software and configuration.

Why Separate Workers Are Useful

When several miners are connected to the same pool, separate workers make it easier to identify which device is operating normally, which has reduced its hashrate, and which has stopped submitting shares.

For example, with ten ASIC miners, a single shared identifier would make troubleshooting much harder. If every ASIC has a separate worker identifier, the operator can compare their hashrates, share counts, rejected results, and last activity.

Workers and Payouts

A worker is normally an accounting and monitoring unit rather than an independent payment recipient. A pool can aggregate the work of multiple workers belonging to the same account and calculate a combined balance. The exact model depends on the pool infrastructure.

Pool Worker can therefore be viewed as the logical layer between physical mining hardware and the pool’s statistical system.
