Uptime is a measure of the time during which mining equipment or a system is operating and available for computation. It is usually expressed in hours, days, or as a percentage of a given observation period.

Uptime is important in mining because equipment produces computational output only while it is actually operating. Restarts, failures, power problems, network issues, or cooling problems reduce actual operating time.

Uptime Calculation

If equipment operated for 720 hours out of 744, uptime is:

720 / 744 × 100% ≈ 96.8%.

When evaluating stability, the duration of the measurement period should be considered. Short-term uptime over several hours does not provide enough information to assess long-term equipment reliability.

Factors Affecting Uptime

  • equipment reliability;
  • power supply stability;
  • the quality of the network infrastructure;
  • temperature conditions;
  • the cooling system;
  • the quality of software and management systems;
  • the speed of detecting and resolving failures.

High uptime does not mean that individual errors are absent: a device may continue operating while experiencing reduced hashrate or hardware errors. Therefore, uptime should ideally be analyzed together with actual hashrate, temperature, and equipment status.
