Operating temperature is a temperature parameter describing the conditions under which mining equipment is designed to operate normally. Different components may have different temperature ranges and maximum permissible values.

Temperature affects computational stability, power consumption, cooling system operation, and long-term equipment operation. Therefore, when designing an installation, it is necessary to consider not only the temperature of the chips themselves but also ambient temperature, inlet air temperature, and the effectiveness of heat removal.

Temperature and Performance

When excessive heating occurs, equipment may automatically reduce its operating parameters. This mechanism is called thermal throttling. It helps limit the thermal load but can simultaneously reduce hashrate.

Temperature is monitored using sensors installed directly on components or inside the equipment. In ASIC miners, the temperature of the computing chips is monitored separately because they generate a significant portion of the thermal load.

Relationship to Cooling

Maintaining the operating temperature depends on the cooling system and its ability to remove the generated heat. In air-cooled systems, inlet air temperature and airflow are particularly important. In liquid-cooled systems, coolant parameters and the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet are also monitored.

Other parameters used to assess operating conditions include chip temperature, operating temperature, and environmental conditions.
