Hashrate is a measure of the computational performance of mining equipment or a network, expressed as the number of hashes calculated per unit of time. In mining, hashrate indicates how quickly equipment performs calculations for the algorithm being used.

The unit of measurement is hashes per second (H/s). Modern equipment is usually described using derived units: KH/s, MH/s, GH/s, TH/s, PH/s, and EH/s. For example, 1 TH/s means one trillion calculations per second.

Equipment Hashrate

The nominal hashrate depends on the type of equipment, the algorithm being used, and the operating mode. For an ASIC miner, performance is usually specified in TH/s or PH/s, while for a GPU miner, the unit depends on the algorithm and may be expressed in MH/s or GH/s.

Actual hashrate may differ from the manufacturer's stated value. It is affected by clock frequency, equipment settings, temperature, power limit, thermal throttling, power stability, and the number of hardware errors.

Hashrate and Energy Efficiency

High hashrate alone does not determine equipment efficiency. For economic evaluation, it is considered together with power consumption and power efficiency.

Network Hashrate

In networks using Proof-of-Work, the concept of total network hashrate is also used. It represents the combined computational power of miners participating in maintaining the network. Changes in network hashrate affect the distribution of computational competition among participants and are related to the consensus mechanism and mining difficulty adjustment process.
