Chip count is the number of computing chips installed in mining equipment. In ASIC miners, this usually refers to the number of specialized ASIC chips installed on the computing boards.
Chip count is a characteristic of the hardware architecture but does not by itself determine device performance. Two miners with the same number of chips can differ significantly in hashrate and power efficiency.
Relationship to ASIC Architecture
Performance depends on chip generation, internal architecture, operating frequency, and manufacturing process. Therefore, when comparing equipment, it is necessary to consider not only the number of chips but also the characteristics of each chip.
Chips are typically distributed across several hashboards. Failure of some chips can lead to reduced overall hashrate, the appearance of hardware errors, or the shutdown of an individual computing board.
